Comcast Honickman Learning Center for Project H.O.M.E.

Project H.O.M.E., in partnership with the Honickman Foundation and  the Comcast Foundation and has completed construction of a new 38,000 square foot, three-story, learning center in  North Central Philadelphia.  The state of the art learning center is designed to help the residents of the community – children, youth, adults and families - move towards greater prosperity by increasing their educational and employment opportunities through comprehensive technology and literacy instruction.

As part of the design team, D. S. Winokur Associates was responsible for topographic and boundary surveying of the proposed site and surrounding streets. Our detailed utility research indicated that building required utility improvement. D. S. Winokur Associates designed and coordinated the installation of a 285 ft. combined sewer line which ties in to the Philadelphia Water Department's existing water mains.

Plans were also completed detailing existing and proposed contours for site grading that included building elevations, spot elevations on parking and services drives and drainage facilities. The site required a soil erosion control plan covering interim measures required during construction and schedule of activities in accordance with the Pennsylvania DEP Soil Erosion and Pollution Control Manual.   Winokur Associates Inc. also provided construction details such as paving cross-section, walks, curbs, depressed curbs and parking lot drains.

Congregation Beth El

Congregation Beth El of Bucks County is a vibrant, growing congregation located in Lower Makefield, Pennsylvania. This fall, the Congregation will celebrate the groundbreaking of the second phase of synagogue construction on their 15 acre site.

D.S. Winokur Associates Inc., worked with the Congregation on the first phase of construction - a 6,000 square foot, two-story, multi-purpose building. The first floor is a flexible worship and social space and the second floor is divided into classrooms for religious school, day school, and for adult study programs.  The construction of Phase I was completed 1997.

In Phase II, the Congregation is adding a 12,000 square feet to the building to construct a main sanctuary with seating for 515. Also included are memorial areas, gathering space, a full commercial kitchen, as well as support facilities for administrative purposes.  The design allows for the multi-purpose room to convert into a main social hall to accommodate weddings and bar and bas mitzvahs.

D.S. Winokur Associates is responsible for site planning, surveys, landscaping plans and roadway designs. The work included grading and design of parking lots to accommodate 230 vehicles.  Special attention was direct to creating balance between the landscaping, paving, and gardens to create a beautiful environment.
